Used commercial machines
Forty thousand pages on the counter beats four hundred thousand, whatever year the machine was made. That one number is the first thing we check on a used photocopier, and it is the first thing you should ask anyone selling you one. Here is how we pick and prepare the used commercial machines we sell on the Sunshine Coast.
Our machines are commercial copiers and multifunctions from the makers we repair week in, week out. They arrive from offices that upgraded, businesses that closed and machines that came off lease.
Stock turns over too quickly for a website list, so we do not keep one. Name the make, the model or the feature you want and we will tell you what we have right now.

A copier counts every page it makes. That total is a fairer guide to wear than age. A machine that spent five years in a quiet accountant's office may have done less work than one that spent two years in a council print room.
We record the counters on every used machine and give you the numbers before you decide. Ask the same of anyone else selling you one.
Then we deliver it, install it and connect it. See photocopier installation and setup if you want to know what a delivery day looks like.
These words get used loosely, so this is what each one means on our side.
| Word | Our meaning |
|---|---|
| Used and second hand | Same thing. A machine that was owned and run by someone else first. |
| Refurbished and reconditioned | A used machine brought back to working order, with the worn parts swapped for new. |
| Ex demo | A showroom or demonstration unit, usually with a short life on the counter. |
Each has its own page on the site if you want the detail.
A machine from a marketplace listing arrives with no history, no work done and nobody to ring. A machine from a dealer who does not repair is an unknown with a price tag on it. A machine from a service business has been handled by people who know what fails, and there is someone to fix it afterwards. That is most of what you are paying for.
A used colour copier can be a good buy. It is also the machine where tired parts announce themselves: the drums, the transfer belt and the developer, and the colour balance as a whole. We test colour machines with colour jobs, and if one of them is close to the end of its life we tell you.
If you only need colour now and then, a decent black and white machine next to a small colour printer is sometimes the better answer.
A workgroup laser printer or an A4 multifunction has fewer moving parts than a floor standing copier, so a good used one runs for years without fuss. We sell them alongside the copiers and look at them the same way. Our office printers for sale page has more. Home inkjets are not something we stock.
Some never reach an office. A failing board or controller, because the repair costs too much. Heavy wear on the drum unit or belt on a model where parts are hard to find. A frame that has been dropped. A meter reading far too high for its class. A model with no toner or parts left in the supply chain.
That list is the reason the ones we sell keep working.
Before you buy any used machine, from anyone, find out whether toner and parts will still be around in four or five years and what they cost. A cheap machine that takes an odd cartridge is a bad buy. We know which lines have parts support because we repair them.
A machine built for a large department and dropped into a six person office is wasted money, and a desktop unit asked to do a school office's end of term is a short road to repairs. Speed class, paper capacity and drawer count should fit the work, and the meter reading should leave plenty of room.
For a small trades or professional office, a used A3 multifunction in the middle of its life is often the best value we have. For a busy front desk with colour handouts, we talk through the options, new ones included.
It is carried in, put where you want it and connected to your network. Printing and scanning get tested from your own computers, scan to email is set up where you need it, and the people who will use the machine are walked through the settings that matter. Anything that does not behave on the day is sorted on the day.
Print the configuration page and read the meter. Copy a page of dense text and one with a solid black patch and look for streaks, spots, a grey wash or pale areas. Feed a stack of pages through the document feeder. Lift the covers and look for toner spills. Listen for grinding or squealing. Check every tray feeds. And ask who will service it.
Spotted a machine elsewhere? Give us the make and model and we will pass on what we know about it.
If you would rather not buy outright, ask about hire, rent or lease for the machine you have picked. Our photocopier hire, rental, lease and finance page sets out the options, and we tell you what suits the model.
Every machine we sell is warranted, and what that covers is explained over the phone before you commit. Servicing stays with us too. The technician who attends is trained and certified, and if a fault returns after our repair we deal with it again at no charge.

Drums and daylight
The drum is coated with something that reacts to light. Leave one on a bench by a window at a Buderim office while someone hunts for a screwdriver and it can come back marked for good, the same small spot down every page. People notice a week later and blame the toner. Ours stay wrapped until the second they go in, and nobody puts a finger on the surface.
We have no brand to push, so nobody here gains by selling you a drum you did not need. If the drum is fine we say so and look somewhere else.
